Hello, faithful readers! I just wanted to give a little update on TOV.

All is going smoothly on the third issue. There are a few contract things I need to work out, and I need to finish the editing. The issue will come out in the beginning of February and will feature the following stories/authors:

"Black Planet" by A. David Smith
"Red Wings, Black Wings" by Lee Pletzers
"The Last One Left" by Brandon Perkins
"To Pierce the Eerie Ghost and Sing, Sing, Sing" by Richard Pitaniello
"Road Stop" by Chris Ward
"This Corner of the Earth" by Nathaniel Lambert
"The Pit" by Annick Sever

I realize there have been numerous delays and/or uncertainties regarding TOV the past few months, but fear not, we'll be moving on as strong as ever in 2008. I just had to sweep aside some issues and roadblocks before moving ahead.

For all of those who have submitted and their response time has gone a little longer than they had anticipated: I sincerely apologize for that and I'll get to your stories ASAP. If you are curious, however, feel free to send me an e-mail and ask, and I'll be more than happy to update you.

Here's the itinerary for 2008:

February 08: Issue 3 (closed to submissions)
April 08: Issue 4 (still a few slots left)
June 08: Issue 5 (open to submissions)
August 08: Issue 6 (open to submissions)
October 08: Halloween issue (themed; will open to submissions in the summer)
December 08: Issue 7 (open to submissions)!

The Open Vein is going to publish a special Christmas-inspired issue in the month of December and we're now open to submissions. Please visit here for submission guidelines and more information about the special. Looking forward to your submissions!

We need artwork for the cover of our second issue, which will be published in the first part of September. We're looking for something gruesome this time around!

We're looking for any medium, but the artwork must be black/white or grayscale and e-mailed here as a 300dpi TIFF file attachment. Thanks!

The first issue is almost done. Layout and editing is all done; I'm just waiting for a couple of contracts to come back to me from authors and then it'll be out. For more details on the first issue's content, please visit the Current Issue page.

The site was launched today! For a little while, it will be very bare-bones. I plan on building content over the next few weeks, especially when the first issue is launched.
